Valentines Day history is directly associated with Saint Valentine. He was Roman by born. Valentine's day is directly associated with the Roman festival Lupercalia. 


There were three Saints named Valentines. But it is assumed and mostly confirmed that the day is celebrated in the memory of the Roman Saint. Saint Valentine fought against Roman emperor Claudius II around 270 AD.

The emperor ordered the young men not to marry to make them better fighter men which were opposed by Saint Valentine and martyred for love.


One more story also being told that Valentine was in the prison of emperor Claudius and fell in love with the jailer's daughter. 


From jail, he wrote a letter with the sign at the end 'From your Valentine'. The day is dedicated to expressing the love initially by the naming feast of Saint valentine. 

In 1969, the catholic church revised the name and started its calling by Valentine's day.
