Origin / History of Valentines Day

Valentines Day is being celebrated in the memory of Saint Valentine who faught for the love. People celebrate this day as a symbol of love. Although there is no officia holiday on most of the countries in the world.

Valentines Day history is directly associated with the Saint Valentine. He was Roman by born. Valentines day is directly associated with the Roman festival Lupercalia. There were three Saints named Valentines. But it is assumed and mostly confirmed that the day celebrated in the memory of Roman Saint. Saint Valentine fought againt Roman emperor Claudius II around 270 AD. The emperor ordered the young men not to marry to make them better fighter men which was opposed by saint Valentine and martyred for love.

One more story also being told that Valentine was in prison of emperor Claudius and fell in love with jailer's daughter. From jail, he wrote a letter with the sign at the end 'From your Valentine'. The day is dedicated to express the love initially by name feast of Saint valentine. In 1969, catholic church revised the name and started it calling by valentines day.
